Born and raised in Texas, I am a native Austinite.  I always enjoyed art as a
child especially the religious images in the Catholic Churches.  While studing
art at the University of Texas,  I became fascinated with Byzantine and Latin
American art.   I was also fascinated with the Mexican Muralists and Frieda
Kahlo.   From this,  I was able to expand and experiment in color and
incorporate many of my childhood images into images of expressive, colorful
art.   My hispanic heritage is an important part of my art work as is religious
symbolism.   Many of my early pieces deal with images of my past—very
expressive, colorful and mural like. Throughout the years my images have
changed.   Not so much dealing with the past but with the present.   My
hispanic roots are still very visible in my art work but the images have changed
more into images of expressive landscapes, nature, and religious themes.   Not
dealing with color as much as with the images and symbolism behind them.
